Mental Health Stigma
Welcome Back to the Dearing Acting Studio Podcast! Today we're going deep and talking about the mental health stigma. We are not professionals in this field, however our goal is to spread light driven content to the world. In our society, mental health is something many people struggle to talk openly about. That's something we'd like to see change one step at a time. In our classes, we focus on personal development through the art of acting and our goal is to create better people. Read more about what we do here. Our beloved Shea is so brave and has been willing to speak out on her battle with mental health multiple times. Our hope is that people can listen to this and ask honest questions about how to help and be a part of the change!
Mistakes are Okay!
As human beings, we will all make a million mistakes in our lifetime. With that in mind, how we deal with our mistakes is up to us. We teach a concept in our acting classes that's called Celebrate, Learn, Grow. In a nutshell, this just means you celebrate the "little wins" that you will have along the way. You Learn from your mistakes, and make it a point to replace bad habits with good ones. Then in return, you grow from every situation you find yourself in. As you can see, these concepts go much deeper than acting, and we've seen the impact it has first hand. Check out this episode of our morning show, where one of our student's shares the transformation she's had through taking classes at our studio!
Impact
If there's a major takeaway we'd like people to have here, it is that YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Everyone in this world has a purpose, and we guarantee your impact is much bigger than you realize. Read this blog from 2013 re-telling the story of a dear family friend, Brad Piccirillo who passed away at a young age, and yet left such a huge footprint on this world and everyone he came in contact with! Everyone has an individual perspective and voice that needs to be heard. At our studio, our values are Pasion, Love, Mastery, and LOVE is at the center of everything we do. It's a big ask, but if we can all love one another and give each other the benefit of the doubt, it empowers you to take control of any situation. On top of this, talk about it to the people in your circle who you trust and love. Frame them with exactly what you need, so they can help you, and love you through it!

DEARING STUDIO PODCAST- THE POWER OF "I AM"
The team was so excited to hop on the podcast and chat this week. We will let you in on a little secret. So, our team has an awesome chemistry (still a work in progress) that we have built to chat the way we do on our podcasts, but most of the time, we have an outline as to what topics we want to hit on. That being said, we thrive on being able to adapt to whatever topics of conversation are drawn to our hearts. Do we want to hit our outline? Sure. But, are we free to improvise away from it when necessary? ABSOLUTELY. (Of course that deserved all caps) In fact, some of our best conversations derive from being able to audible with each other and find new discoveries from there.
We begin this episode of the Dearing Studio Podcast- The Power of "I AM" with discussing the statements that we often give ourselves without truly questioning them. We also touch on the imposter syndrome and how easy it is to preach advice to others that you may be unwilling to swallow a dosage of.
NEW SKILL! PUBLIC SPEAKING
Shea took on a new challenge this week as she gave her first official public speech. Her topic was on kindness! So, she obviously wore her "be kind" shirt. Speaking in front of a crowd is one of the struggles that many students have coming into the Dearing Acting Studio. Subsequently, this is why scripted work and improvisation are excellent tools for improving public speaking skills. Check out this cool article about public speaking (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/smashing-the-brainblocks/201711/why-are-we-scared-public-speaking) and why we are so fearful of it. It is an exciting time for the Dearing Team as we have added speaking engagements to our services. Want more info on this? Check out our page here (https://www.dearingstudio.com/speaking).
TAKING STUDENTS NEXT LEVEL: LEEANN DEARING
The Dearing Acting Studio was blessed with a guest youth teacher this week! OG instructor and rockstar improvisor, Leeann Dearing (A founder of Dearing Acting Studio) was able to shake it up with our youth actors this week and give them a whole new perspective on improvisation. Teaching kids the "why's" and "how's" of improv is no easy feat, but Leeann was able to create a high-level-learning atmosphere - while having way too much fun, of course.
